Model Layers & Views

Model Layers

  • Model Layers are generated and managed by Model Owners to support the use-case of each Model

  • Each Layer can be used to constrain the holistic Model data for a particular purpose and/or User Group for that Layer:

    • Filters: ​automatically applied which cannot be exceeded by Users

    • Properties Pane: which Fields/Functions are available to Users

    • Labels: which Label Collections are available to Users

    • Colours: which Colour-by Collections are available to Users

    • Model Objects and Data: Editable / Non-Editable

    • Edits can / cannot be Merged to Master e.g.

      • The Layer is for incrementally updating the Master Model

      • The Layer is for performing "What-if" change-impact scenarios

 

Model Views​

  • Model Views are visualisation-modes of the Model Data:
    Networks / Data Tables / Gantt Schedules 

  • Views are generated and managed by Model Owners to support the use-case of the Model for the relevant Userbase

  • Views can be individually constrained with additional Filters

  • Multiple Views can be configured per Layer as required

Gantt Schedule Views

BOXARR’s integrated scheduler generates Gantt Schedule visualisations of the Model using attributes assigned to Boxes (e.g. Duration) and Arrows (e.g. Precedence).

  • Generate "Date" Schedules (i.e. actual calendar dates)

  • Generate "Relative" Schedules (i.e. Week-1 / Week-2 / etc.)

  • Switch the Schedule between Contextual Groupings

  • Zoom in/out of the Schedule to adjust the temporal scale

  • Expand/Collapse the Schedule Depth for more/less fidelity

  • Select Objects to reveal Earliest Start and Latest End 

  • Select Objects to view their attributes in the Properties Pane

  • Show/hide Scheduling violations

The Context Pane enables Users to control the visualisation and edit

  • Select which Colour-by Set to apply to the Model Objects

  • Select which metric to define Arrow Weights

  • Manage Summarisation & Split of Boxes (for Group Labels)

  • Box Types available for drag & drop in editing mode​

  • Arrow Types​ available for drag & drop in editing mode​

Properties Pane

The Properties Pane displays selected data attributes of any Box or Arrow or Group selected by the User. The Properties Pane can be individually configured for each Model Layer for relevance, and for sensitive data protection (e.g. where some data Fields/Functions may not be relevant to ,or may be withheld from, certain User Groups).

  • Display Field values and Function values by Object Type

  • Field/Functions can be sorted into collapsible Tabs for easy navigation

  • Field values can be edited when the Model is in "Edit Mode"​

This approach ensures your Model Views remain clear and uncluttered for effective visual analysis - while enabling detailed information to be easily accessed by Users on demand.

The Properties Pane can be hidden by the User when not required.

Powerful parametric User Filters enable Users to quickly filter down Model Views to focus on areas and aspects of concern.

  • Generate & apply User Filter chips by variables on Boxes

  • Generate & apply User Filter chips by variables on Arrows

  • Generate & apply User Filter chips by Variables on Groups

  • Generate & apply User Filter chips by Paths:
    (Up / Down / Up+Down Stream)

Filters can be easily adjusted by Users on-the-fly for rapid re-focus.

Users can select and apply Colour Sets to the Network View to support rapid visual analysis. Colour Sets are generated from BOXARR Functions which apply conditional formatting to Model Objects.

Boxes

  • Apply conditional colouring to Boxes based upon a Field or Function value.  

 

Arrows

  • Apply conditional colouring to Arrows based upon a Field or Function value.

  • Arrows can also be auto-formatted with visual "Weights" based upon the value of an Arrow Field/Function.

Groups

  • Apply conditional colouring to Groups based upon a Field or Function value

Colouring Labels

  • Colour Functions can also be assigned as Labels on Model Objects: Boxes/Arrows/Groups

  • Enable rapid visual RAG/Heatmap indicators

Sharing insights
Intelligent URLs

BOXARR Models provide a powerful source of collaborative system-of-systems design and complexity management between Users across your organisation. 

 

When Users apply visualisation settings (e.g. Model, Layer, View, applied Filters, applied Labels, applied Colours, etc.), these are captured within the Modeller's URL . 

 

Users can then share discovered insights with colleagues by simply copying the Modeller's URL and sharing it via their preferred communications medium (e.g. Email, Teams, Slack, etc.).  Recipients can simply open the link to view the shared Model visualisation.

In addition to updates via data imports/API, the nSight Modeller provides a fully collaborative modelling environment. Multiple Users across your organisation can work together on building and evolving Models. Editing permissions are Role-based and fully configurable per User or User Group (per Model Layer).

  • Switch a Model View into 'Editing Mode'

  • Add/move/delete Boxes

  • Add/connect/delete Arrows

  • Add/move/delete Groups

  • Edit Object-data attributes (Field values) in Properties Pane

  • Run/update Functional analyses
