BOXARR speaking at the DSEI Joint Seminar Programme

Updated: Mar 16, 2023

The BOXARR Vice President for Global Alliances Fraser Hamilton will be giving a presentation about Digital Twin technologies on Day 4 (13th Sept), at the Joint Seminar Programme dedicated to Industry Engagement & Acquisition.

Event Details

Date: 13th September 2019 | 12:00 – 12:30

Presentation: ‘How the adoption of Digital Twin technologies can rapidly enable ‘defence ecosystem’ to effectively manage its complex inter-dependencies

Speaker: Fraser Hamilton | VP for Global Alliances

Location: Global Theatre | Joint Seminar Programme

The burgeoning complexity in defence sector

The complexity of systems, programs, and organisations is burgeoning. This is an accelerating trend particularly relevant to the defence sector, where the ability to operate and sustain sovereign defence capabilities relies upon a vast ecosystem of defence forces, industry partners, and the cooperation of allies. In a world where everything is increasingly and fundamentally interconnected, the ability to effectively manage this complexity is now crucial to sustaining and enhancing operational performance.

The concept of ‘systems-modelling’

The concept of 'systems modelling' is hardly new. However, the ability to actually exploit such modelling has typically required burdensome time/cost investment training highly skilled personnel in esoteric modelling languages and toolsets. In effect, this has often bottle-necked usability to a chosen few and thereon severely limited the accessibility and value-potential of Models to the broader stakeholder community that needs them. In turn, vast amounts of knowledge and experience remain captured in people’s heads. With no effective means of elicitation, this intellectual value is being consistently lost from defence through the routine churn of personnel re-posting or their migration into defence industry. And, of course, there is the challenge of data. Immense, expanding pools of information (often with dubious reliability) isolated in silos across the enterprise or locked away in disparate information systems.

Humanisation of ‘systems modelling'

BOXARR’s ‘humanisation’ of systems-modelling is now having a profound effect on the way organisations can respond to these challenges; tactically and strategically. By employing contemporary Digital Twin methodologies, people across and between defence organisations can effectively collaborate to rapidly build, sustain and evolve systems-of-systems Models. People can efficiently visualise, navigate, and test their inter-dependencies.

People can tangibly minimise risk by 'wargaming' and evaluating the propagated effects of proposed decisions/changes across an eco-system before they are implemented. Likewise, the diverse and potentially critical impacts of unforeseen events can be rapidly simulated and visualised to enable the timely deployment of collaborative remedial actions.

Digital Twins of Organisations

In this presentation, we will discuss how the concept and capabilities of Digital Twins of Organisations have evolved. We will review examples of how such technologies are being exploited by governments, militaries, and enterprise. And we will examine how the adoption of Digital Twin technologies such as BOXARR can rapidly enable the 'defence ecosystem' (government, industry, and allies) to effectively manage its complex inter-dependencies across aspects such as force-design; program-planning; systems-engineering; through-life sustainment; supply/value-web resilience; logistics and operational performance.

About BOXARR

BOXARR is a software platform that helps make the complexity of today’s world human readable. BOXARR enables people to collaboratively capture knowledge from both people and disparate data sources, building flexible, Digital Twins at a real-world scale (millions of data objects), which become analytical engines for improvement and value realisation. Used in blue-chip companies, Tier 1 Consultancies and at the highest levels of military and government worldwide, BOXARR directly supports decision making, provides clarity on processes, and helps address real-world challenges increasing revenues, security, and resource allocation. BOXARR overcomes complexity in organisational design, systems engineering, programme & sustainment planning, supply-web resilience, joint operational & logistical process, and more.
